Life for me started at Belfast City Hospital, it should have been in Ballymena but I was to be born with 2 bloodgroups so needed one of them removed. I "grew up" or should I say "got older" in Ballymena, a quiet friendly town in the 1970's but known moreso nowadays for its heroin problem and ridiculous poilticians. |
Although the band didnt make the bigtime there are no regrets, not even the story as to how we have a letter from Jurys Hotel chain stating we were barred from all their hotels! My favourite moments were starring in "Kriegsbilder - Warshots", a german film, no, not THAT kind of german film, and supporting "The Damned" on their irish tour.
If the band ever split I said I would move to Dublin as it rocked, so after freelancing as a designer around Belfast for a while i decided to make the move in late 1997 and made a career move into web design.
I never lost my taste for making music though and in 2000 Purgatory Records were launched, a dance record label formed with long time friend Aaron McClelland. This consisted mostly of awful hard house records that would make ye boke, although we did have some success by appearing on 2 "Euphoria" albums mainly due to a track called "The Guvnors - Busted". In 2003 we launched vinyl distribution which has had great success with and a track called "Yerman - Good Grief", the label is now known as Mena Music.
Finally in 2004 I decided to explore my passion for painting and www.irishartforsale.com was born.

I attended Cambridge House Boys Grammar School from and at the age of 19 I left Ballymena for Burnley College to study a Foundation Course in Art and Design. This worked to my advantage as I concentrated on the course I was doing and after the year I was accepted into University of Ulster to study Design and Communications. All the while I had been playing guitar and keyboards just as a hobby and soon the chance came to explore this avenue further.
After graduation I teamed up with "The Bedhangers", a rock band with a reputation for beers, farmers' daughters, tight trousers and all things ridiculous. Although it started as a laugh it quickly went on to become quite a well known band in Ireland from 1992-97. In 1995 the band and I parted company, tired from rolling around the back of transit vans and trying to be on time for work the next day (send me an email and I'll tell you the real story!)! |
